Speaker: Wheelchair Users Skills and Perspectives
Pete Donnelly is Outreach and Support Manager for Back Up, a national charity that supports people with spinal cord injury with a range of services. He has used a wheelchair due to paralysis following a spinal cord injury 7 years ago. After attending a wheelchair skills course with Back Up he then went on to be a wheelchair skills trainer 5 years ago and now manages the team who deliver wheelchair skills to more than 500 newly injured people in all 11 spinal injury centres in the UK. Pete is an advocate of wheelchair skills as they have had a great impact on his personal life and allowed him to feel confident and independent enough to go travelling alone across Asia in what some wheelchair users would consider hostile terrain.
